Courier Autumn

Page 2 A word from the Principal The first Courier of the year is always a great pleasure to read. Running through these pages we see a community of students and staff who have gone over and above time and time again, rising to and overcoming the challenges that we have all had to face during this unpredecented time. This term we have welcomed our fantastic new Year 7 community into the college. It has been so heartening to see how settled and happy they've become in such a short period of time. This edition really celebrates our students' next steps . Check out the breadth of universities and colleges that our Year 13 are now studying at on pages 5 and 6. Mr Wightman's brilliant piece on where our art students are now is an inspiring read. Check out the article on Niall Cashman written by his tutor Ms Taverna. Niall is a wonderful young man who finished his seven years with us in June. He embodies the college in so many ways and his success here with us is a sign of the value and importance of truly comprehensive education. Please take time to read about how we marked Black History Month here at KEVICC. A series of assemblies curated by Mrs Clark saw staff talking about BAME figures who have inspired them in various ways or have made them reflect on the impact of discrimination and their own biases. Such an important and vital message, page 23 has a write up of the work, the assemblies are available to view on our YouTube channel. This term we also launched our KEVICC Canon and tutor reading programme. The books selected provide an eclectic array of voices, perspectives and genre, and serve as an excellent springboard for further reading. We are so proud that our Canon promotes the diversity of our common literary heritage, dealing with some of the most pressing issues of our time. Be sure to promote the Canon at home with your young people, see page 31. Lastly, may I take this opportunity to thank you as parents and carers. Since September the countless heartfelt messages I have receieved from so many of you, championing the college and its staff, have been incredibly encouraging to us all during these times.
