During the summer term, some talented Year 9 students
from Food Tech and Languages had the opportunity to
show off their culinary skills by cooking Spanish omelette
and chocolate cake as part of the International Dimension
programme.
Being Spanish, I have to admit that I was worried the
students may ruin my country´s reputation by destroying
our national dish. However, I was pleasantly surprised with
the results which rivalled some of my own amazing cooking.
There aremanymisconceptions about how Spanish omelette
is made, but I revealed the true secrets of Spanish cuisine.
Spanish chefs are after my head since KEVICC students
now hold the secrets that have made our gastronomy so
admired. Like all great dishes, Spanish omelette is simple!
Just potatoes, egg and garlic fried together, NEVER put in
cheese or pepper or cook it in the oven.
Special thanks to Fay Crellen for makingmy dreamof English
people cooking Spanish omelette properly come true.

In July we held our first
Tandems
session
with Totnes School of Languages. Twenty
GCSE, AS and A2 students were paired up
with native students from the languages
school, in order to practise their Speaking in
Target Language.
The Fench, Spanish and German students
learned about each other’s cultures by
asking prepared questions; they had were
treated to cakes and given the chance to
socialise during the meeting.
This was a real success, and our students
were outstanding in the way they
participated, demonstrating a real flair
for speaking spontaneously. We hope to
continue and develop this link, offering
the opportunity to practise languages to
more students in a ‘real’ situation, helping
them develop their confidence and cultural
knowledge.
Here you’ll find a riddle
in Spanish.
Can you guess what
the job described is?
Preparo el terreno
y la semilla siembro;
siempre esperando
que el sol y la lluvia
lleguen a tiempo
The first three students from KS3 and KS4 that
tell Miss Fernandez the right job (in Spanish)
will receive a sweet treat!!

Tandems
This is a new group of Year 9 linguists who are always
plotting against different teachers, using their skills in
French, Spanish and Italian to pull practical jokes on them.
This time, the gang has been called in by Miss Fernandez in
order to get revenge on Mrs Burman. Now… the game is on!
Thanks to Ed Coles, Felix Dennison, Callum McGinnis and
Ewan Baker for a great job!
