Science
Over 120 Year 11 students came to breakfast on the 19th May! This was the day of the first Science GCSE paper of the season
and more than half of the year group came to a final session in the Redworth dining room. This came hot on the heels of
several Saturday sessions where over 40 students attended. Students said that it was helpful to get some help with last
minute questions; to work with and get some support from their friends, as well as learning a stress-relieving breathing
exercise tip. Some were definitely more honest when they said it was all down to a free bacon roll!
Whatever the reason, it was great for the Science team to see so many students really engaged with doing the best that they
could. They all set off for the Sports Hall at 8:40 with some Science in their head and enough 'fuel' to see them through the
first paper. Ahh… that first Biology paper… that’s another story!

Geography
Seventy-five year 10 students conducted their GCSE Controlled Assessment fieldwork in the heart of Plymouth’s City Centre.
The students were investigating the social, economic and environmental impacts of the Drake Circus Shopping Centre on
the Central Business District. Students used methods such as environmental quality surveys; field sketches; shopping bag
surveys and land use maps to determine how regeneration had changed the CBD.
The students will write up their findings in College as part of the Changing Urban Environments GCSE unit of work. Students
thoroughly enjoyed the day and were given free time in the afternoon to enjoy the shops. They behaved impeccably and
were a credit to KEVICC.
