This artwork, currently on show
at the 'Shady Garden' in the
town is a painting by Talya
Zaki, a star KEVICC student,
who obtained top marks at
GCSE and A-Level Art, and is
now just about to complete her
Foundation Degree course at
the College.
Shady Garden is a public
quiet space along Totnes Fore
Street, next to the Thrive café.
We have, for some time, been
using it as a showcase / pop-
up exhibition space to show off
some of our talented students'
work.
Previous
exhibitors
include Molly Allen, Dylan
Friese-Greene and Isaac Moss.
We plan to change the work on
display termly.

LIMINAL PLACES ~ artist Claire Meharg
Claire exhibits with us in September as part of Devon
Open Studios. This initiative is countywide and runs
each year with artists and crafts people opening up
their studios, spaces and homes in a trail for anyone to
explore. Galleries also participate and we're pleased to
offer our space in support. Brochures will be available
in late August at galleries, libraries, tourist information
centres and community hubs.
Claire’s creative practice stems from the connection
she makes to place and environment, and she plans
to exhibit abstract paintings and works on paper. Both
bodies of work are references to memories and feelings
stirred both by a sense of self and place. Visual scenes
are deconstructed into basic elements such as areas of
light, lines, edges, simple forms, colours and movement.
Not concerned with reproducing what is obvious, Claire
looks at the emerging invisible that comes from the act
of painting and drawing, and also the dialogue that is
inherent between the paint and painter.
Claire is a contemporary fine artist with a Degree and
Masters in Fine Art from the University of Plymouth.
