Year 13 Enterprise:
Visit from Restaurateur
Luke Downing, Georgia Vaughan, Jordan Bassnett, Phoebe
Trussler and Tom Read write:
As year 13 Enterprise and Entrepreneurship students
we were set a challenge back in February for creating
a promotional campaign for a family-run restaurant
in Tavistock, Devon. We were required to come up with
innovative, inspiring and unique forms of advertising for
the business which was seeking to increase its trade in the
mornings and afternoons. We got to interview the business
owner, Karen Sim, in order to understand the business
and the requirements for the project. We had a budget
of £500 to spend and a 3 month period to operate the
campaign over. It was a great opportunity to collaborate
with a business for one of our assignments. We decided
to brainstorm ideas as a group and think of new ways to
advertise the business. We were suddenly very aware of all
the marketing around us! We sent our proposals to Karen
and received detailed feedback from her about our ideas.
It was really interesting to get an insight into how the
marketing works in a business and also the importance
of making sure the costs are right! Karen commented on
how impressed she was with our ideas and they have now
implemented some of the ideas that we came up with,
which is a great reward for our hard work.
Thank you
to all the businesses that have given up
their time this year to help KEVICC students. It has
been wonderful for our students to work with business
professionals from the local area and they are always so
enthused and motivated following a visit.

Business Presentation Competition
Plymouth University
After the success of the Presentation Competition
last year, Plymouth Business School and the Futures
Entrepreneurship Centre launched another Inter-School
Business Presentation Competition this year. The
competition was open to year 10 and 12 students across
the South West ~ Finlay Cashman, Fleur Halkes, Jake
Wilson and Phoebe Trussler went from KEVICC .
The year 12 Enterprise and Entrepreneurship students
were required to prepare a 10 minute presentation on a
topic of their choice in relation to one of the following:
Sustainability, Technology, Enterprise or Diversity. The
students opted to present on Sustainability and decided
on the question: ‘Is environmental sustainability just a
publicity stunt?’ They had 3 hours in the morning to work
with Plymouth University student ambassadors to put
their presentations together. Students were required to
develop their research skills, ability to think analytically,
and work under time pressure in order to complete
their presentation ready for the afternoon. Our year 12
students did an excellent job of presenting in front of
four Plymouth University judges and 60 of their peers.
Although they didn’t win this year, they were highly
commended for their interesting and thought-provoking
topic and excellent presentation slides.
Fleur Halkes wrote:
this was a really great opportunity
to work with Plymouth University on a task that will be
really useful in our subject. It was great to be able to see
the other Colleges presenting and it certainly made us
think about our own presentation skills. I have learnt a
lot from the experience that I will certainly apply to my
assignments.
Well done to the students involved!

Poema de amistad
by Karli Rose
Estoy buscando por el mundo,
No te puedo encontrar
Donde quiera que te busque
No encuentro tu lugar.
El deseo de ubicarte
No lo puedo despegar
La multitud de continents
Que he logrado atravesar.
Si te encontrara haría una ley
Que querría hacer que cumpla un mogollón
Que del mundo con esfuerzo lentamente yo creé
No quisieras salir nunca, ni a la distancia de Plutón.
Cuando te encuentre y se que esto pasará
Habré descubierto a alguien
A quien puedo cumplimentar
Ascenderemos por encima del mundo
No necesitaremos aterrizar
Somos dos almas en una, tu me dices, quizás.
A mi mejor amiga
by Amy Allen
Siempre estás ahí pase lo que pase
Y sé que siempre estarás
Porque eres leal
Y la amiga perfecta
No necesito un cómico famoso
Porque tú me haces reir sin intentarlo
Siempre servicial
Siempre paciente
Eres la amiga para mí.
Esperaré que nuestra amistad
Durará para siempre
Y que permanecerá aventurera
Porque eso es lo bueno de tí.
Gracias quizás no es suficientemente bueno
Pero gracias por hacer
Del mundo un lugar mejor
