The Kennicott football team ...
have had a fairly successful season playing a total of 9
games with a record of 6 wins, 2 loses and 1 draw. They
finished in third position in the League after a very stop-
start year. Due to some terrible weather conditions, it
became quite challenging for games to continue but the
players showed a good level of commitment throughout
and ended up with a very respectable League finish.

The Dave TellamMemorial Shield
game got off
to a frantic start with chances at both ends. The year 13s
used their energy and youthful exuberance to full effect
and found themselves with a couple of chances ~ but
could not find the back of the net! The staff used all of
their MANY years of experience to maintain possession
and wear the students down. In the end, a calm display
from the staff towards the end of the game saw them
run out 4-1 victors with goals from Mr Trent, Mr Collings
and Mr Turner
playing in an
unusual role of
target man! A
leaving game
for a number of
staff played in
very good spirits
ended
with
a
dislocated
finger for Mr
Hartigan after

to

Sport Relief 2016
: KEVICC took on the
challenge of sport relief with a ‘Challenge the
Teacher Week’. This ranged from Badminton,
Basketball, Dodge ball, Football skills, Rowing a
mile and Cycling a mile. The students put their
best foot forward to put in some very impressive
team and individual performances to really push
the teachers to their limits. Teachers ranging from Art, Technology,
English and PE took part, including Principal Alan Salt taking on the
students in Dodge ball. A real College effort that raised £97.25 to
support such a great cause and create a positive ethos behind friendly
competition. All
events were well
managed by the
Colleges’ Sports
Council
who
were on hand
at each event
to help collect
donations.
Our Year 7 Boys Football
team has had a very positive season.
They attended six Central Venues where they had a mixed amount of
success. However, every student that attended football club had the
opportunity to represent the College. In total, 25 year 7 boys took
to the field and gave their all. The year 7 team managed to make
the semi-final of the South
Devon Cup Competition,
picking up some fantastic
victories along the way,
beating Westlands 5-3 and
beating Dawlish 6-1. They
narrowly lost out 3-2 in the
dying moments to a very
strong Teignmouth team.
Our Girls' Table Tennis
team did
very well at the Table Tennis National Trials
recently, and are now third in the country!
The Weymouth Soccer Tour
once
again proved to be a fantastic success, partly
down to the brilliant commitment shown by
the boys before, and during the trip, including
the excellent showing at Morrison’s packing
bags. When we go on the trip there is never
an expectation to win the competition and
more emphasis is put upon the importance of
teamwork and responsibility for themselves.
The team never gave up and scored many
excellent goals. The boys ended the weekend
with a tasty trip to Nandos and then meeting
an England Football legend, Glenn Hoddle, who
used to manage the National team. He wasn’t
the only star that the boys met that weekend
though, as a surprise visitor to the Venue was
Aston Villa player Gabby Agbonlahor.
The boys were an absolute credit to themselves
and the College; as a result, we would be more
than happy to do something big with them
again in the future!
