Courier Summer 2014 - page 16

sixth form
NCS is an amazing four week person-
al development experience for 16-17
year olds. It includes an outdoor
activity residential where they will
be taking part in activities such as
climbing and kayaking.
The first week is about building their
confidence, team work and commu-
nication skills.
Week two is another residential week
where they will be meeting with com-
munity groups, organisations and
charities to find out about their local
area and its challenges. They will
then go on in weeks three and four to
plan and develop a community-based
project. This is the exciting part as it
will be down to them to decide where
they would like to invest their skills
and time to have an impact on their
community!
NCS is an opportunity to make new
friends, experience new things,
learn new skills; have an impact on
your local community and enhance
your CV for college, university and
future job applications. NCS should
cost £1300 but is completely FREE!
We are running a number of start
dates during summer 2014. For the
programme start dates, more infor-
mation or to sign up please contact

Wanting to do something for others,
Kelsey Gitsham, in year 12, chose
to support the Disasters’ Emergency
charity Shelterbox and set herself the
target of raising enough money for
one shelterbox: £590. She decided
to organise a fund-raising gig and,
although she would want to ac-
knowledge all the help she had from
form tutor Kat Fennell; friends and
family, she herself undertook a huge
amount of work and raised over £600!
The evening was well-supported by
KEVICC students (both as performers
including KFC, our folk band, and as
audience) together with the local
community – and it was a great event.
