Year 10 Graphic Product students
have been developing new concepts
for the Totnes Show. Members of the
organisation committee briefed the
students on their requirements and
students collectively and actively
questioned them to clarify criteria re-
quirements and expectations. Having
developed a varied and diverse range
of design solutions students submit-
ted their designs for consideration
at the next full committee meeting.
This partnership project illustrates
how learning experience directly
relates to the real world of design, the
community and commerce.
The winning design, created by
Megan Isaaks, was selected by the
committee members unanimously
and incorporated elements of mar-
quees, the environmental context
and the river. Megan then spent
her own time developing the final
artwork and computer-aided design
files so that the designs can be used
in publicity materials in all forms.
Megan will receive a V.I.P pass for
the show this year for herself and her
family, and receive a cash prize for
herself and the College.
The committee members were very
complimentary about the standard
of the presentations and the innova-
tive thinking behind concepts.

New Logo Developed
at KEVICC
The Parents' Association group under-
takes many fund raising events each
year, selflessly giving up hundreds of
hours to support the College. One of
the initiatives they have been able to
support this year is the provision of
an A3 sublimation printer and press
in Design & Technology that allows
students and community members
to develop and produce products that
require surface images to be fixed
onto the surface permanently.
This is a commercial process that
fixes printed designs onto any
product that has a polyester coating
or over a 50% mix such as T-shirts,
thermochromic mugs, ipad cases, al-
uminium drinks flasks, phone cases
with more personalised designs in
interior design, upholstery, fashion
garments and artworks.
This will facilitate new creative design
projects in class and small enterprise
groups to deploy the system in batch
runs for commercial purposes in
College and the community. The first
community members to benefit from
this facility will be the P.A. itself, de-
ploying its new corporate logo devel-
oped by student Megan Isaaks. The
logo uses aesthetic elements of the
College’s logo and recomposes them
to give the organisation a link to the
College but with its own unique iden-
tity. It is hoped that by the November
firework display the new logo will be
applied to a number of products that
identify volunteer PA members.
This new sublimation system re-
source is a flexible and commercial
process and will allow users of all
ages to develop professional and
durable products.
