features > working with primaries
Earlier this term around 300 onions
were planted to help secure produce
in the light of U boat activity in the
Atlantic threatening food supplies.
The pupils were also put through
their paces training as Local Defence
Volunteers. Despite the lack of weap-
onry and uniform - priority had to be
given to regular troops - there was
plenty of spirit and energy - all part
of that Blitz Spirit which held the
nation out of the clutches of Nazi
control. An appreciation of the Blitz
was developed through artefacts and
storytelling, helped along - obviously
-by tea and buns!
Amazing how rations can be shared!
This is our second year of running
this event in support of the KS2
History curriculum and transition.
Word from the Grove reads:
The day
was fantastic (as per usual!). I've had
lots of great feedback from parents
(two children thought it was the best
day of school they had ever had!).
We've also been writing stories about
evacuations and the quality is fantas-
tic. With such a great experience, they
have really been able to write like an
evacuee. I can't tell you how grateful I
am to you for such a super day.
Here’s to next year!!
Sarah Kehaya
Neil Edwards’ gardeners had extra help from some eager evacuees when 30 Y4
pupils from the Grove Primary School took part in a ‘Dig for Victory’ workshop.
Earlier this term, 180 key stage 1
primary school children came to
KEVICC for a sports festival. The
morning was run by KEVICC's fan-
tastic sports leadership students,
currently in year 10 and consisted
of many different sporting activi-
ties, including throwing, catching,
jumping and even some dancing
and sleeping lions!
The students came from Broad-
hempston, South Brent, Totnes St
John, Harbertonford, Berry Pomeroy
and Landscove. Each school is part
of the Totnes Learning Community
Sports Partnership and they all get
the opportunity to attend sporting
events run by the KEVICC PE team
and its leadership students through-
out the year.
This year KEVICC has hosted festivals
and competitions for all its partner-
ship primary students in Football,
Gymnastics, Badminton, Netball and
multi skills. All the primary students
taking part had a great day learning
lots of new skills to practice back in
the playground at their own schools.
Well done to all those that took part
and helped to run the event.
Primary Sports Festival
It was the best day at school ever! We had
lots of fun because we had to do lots of
activities that were really fun and
epic!
I had a great time – I
really want to do it
again!
I loved the 'Dig for Victory
I found it very
exciting !!
I like the amazing
activities we got to
do!
I had a great time because I
had the experience to feel what
it was like to be an evacuee!
I really enjoyed - it was awesome.
I liked Home
