we say goodbye to...
Karen Bumby
first came to KEVICC as a trainee teacher doing her placement here in
2002. Karen’s potential, both as a great teacher and a team player, was instantly recognis-
able and her appointment to a full time post was made in 2003. Over the years, Karen has
spent numerous hours developing programmes of study and resources for A level, GCSE and,
not least, for those students with very special needs. Early on in her time here Karen, keen
to offer wider opportunities for students, led the implementation of Environmental Studies
as a new ‘A’ Level course, organising annual trips to the Centre for Alternative Technology in
Wales and she held the post of Head of Environmental Science. Karen is a great colleague
who is always enthusiastic and supportive. An outstanding teacher herself, Karen has helped
to drive, shape and develop the teaching and learning at KEVICC; students and staff have
benefitted hugely from her passion, commitment and tenacity.

Vic Weston
has worked at the College for over thirty-seven years with enthusiasm and
a passion for his subject that never dims. He is undoubtedly one of the best Design and
Technology teachers I have had the pleasure to work with. He has unending energy and en-
thusiasm to make products, and this passion is infectious. Vic has been an outstanding role
model for students and staff. He has taught generations of students who reflect nostalgically
on him and the learning experienced in his classes. He has been central to the successes of
his students and has always allowed them to develop work in a highly personalised manner
that challenges them and himself. His dynamism, honesty and good humour make it easy
for him to lead students. Vic never stands still both physically and intellectually, always keen
to challenge himself and the students he leads. It will seem somewhat different without him
busily welding, machining or spray painting something.

Liam Collings
has been at KEVICC forever. He started here as a year 7 boy (some would
say he still looks like one; Mr Beynon would say at times he still acts like one) but, neverthe-
less, he has truly grown into a top member of our team. Reliable, professional, honest and
hardworking are just a few of the traits he possesses. In the past year he has made huge
strides to get closer to what he wants and deserves to be – a PE teacher. He has taught many
PE lessons; has run many of our teams and stepped in when we most needed him to so that
clubs and fixtures never suffered. Often in the PE office you'll hear, 'Can Liam do it?' - we
wouldn't turn to anybody else. We are genuinely delighted that Liam has been accepted onto
the SCITT course and believe that he has exactly what it takes to be an excellent teacher of
the future.
Good luck from the PE Team. We will miss you a lot!
Hannah Holbourn
has been with the Maths department for two years, arriving as a
newly qualified teacher, and has developed all the skills one would look for in an outstanding
teacher. She is a fantastic classroom practitioner and well-liked by the students, injecting
huge amounts of energy into her key stage 3 classes.
Hannah has always put herself forward to go the extra mile, including getting involved in Ten
Tors and running the Maths department's Gifted and Talented programme. Hannah moves
onto the next step of her career with a job in Cologne, Germany where she will be working in
St George’s International School. Hannah’s drive, enthusiasm, dynamism and passion for her
subject is infectious and St George’s gain is most definitely KEVICC’s loss.
Thank you Hannah for all you have done. The team will miss you.
Sarah Chapman
has supported students at KEVICC for eight years and been a highly
valued member of our LSA team. Her commitment to the role and adaptability enabled her
to work with a whole range of students, including those with more complex medical needs
and behaviours. Her passion for languages has made her invaluable in supporting GSCE
languages, often giving up her own time to provide additional support. Sarah took her HLTA
alongside studying for her O.U. Modern Language Studies degree and her hard work and
perseverance has meant that she is now able to progress to take her PGCE, fulfilling her am-
bition to become a teacher of MFL. As well as working hard for us at KEVICC, Sarah is a mum,
step-mum, fiancée and receiver of dozens of red roses on Valentine’s Days – all of which she
thoroughly deserves!
We’ll miss you Sarah – all the very best for the future.
