The year 7 and 8 computing challenge
pathway have been using Lego
Mindstorms; a mixture of regular lego
and programmable units that can
control a variety of different motors.
They have built a variety robots so far,
with examples shown below:
Lego Mindstorms has been a really great
way to express our creativity and has
been fun yet challenging at times. We
built a robotic arm controlled by either a
computer or a computerised wristband
built to control the robot.
This is a really great opportunity to learn
basic programming and engineering. It
is also great fun. It is enjoyable for both
beginners and experts to mess around
with. I have really enjoyed it and can’t
wait to do it again!

Lego Mindstorms
Lego Mindstorms is very interesting
as you have to join engineering with
programing.
We made a colour sorter that sorts bricks
into cups. It calls out colours as it drops
them into the cups… “BLUE!” “YELLOW!”
“GREEN!” “RED!”

Students have celebrated yet more success in this year’s
individual and teamMaths Challenge. Sixth Form students
in particular have shown just how able they are at logical
thinking and relished at the opportunity to think outside
the box. This includes the great success the senior team
had at the Team Maths Challenge just before Christmas.
Throughout the afternoon Flynn Milton, Rowan Robinson,
Luke Watson and Joe
Pratt-Johns competed
against
nineteen
other teams in four
very different rounds,
finishing in fourth
place. The results
from the individual
Maths
Challenges
are listed on the next
page. Well done to
everyone who took
part, and to those who
received certificates.
