Primary Sport
I am delighted to announce that KEVICC
in partnership with Torbay Tigers
Basketball Club are launching a Primary
School Love Basketball Academy.
The Academy will be based in the Sports
Hall at KEVICC and run by Torbay Tigers
Coaches every Friday after the February
Half Term from 4-5pm.

The New Year had only just been welcomed in when twenty-
two teams descended upon KEVICC to participate in the
second badminton competition of the academic year. The
standardof play throughout the tournamentwasmagnificent
with close games on all courts. A special mention must go to
Max from Diptford who did nearly 100 keepy-uppys without
dropping the shuttle. Well done Max!
The football season carried on where it left off last year with
twomore dates on the calendar completed. We are now at the
half way stage and Totnes St Johns are starting to pull away
but, behind them, things are really close with only six points
separating the next four teams. The next round of fixtures
will be after half term and can South Brent, Landscove
Dartington or Diptford catch the runaway leaders?
The second Young Play Leaders Session was held in January. Year 6 pupils
from 21 primary schools worked alongside teachers and MTAs in a range of
activities to help promote active playtimes both in fine and wet weather.
This session's particular focus was the Intra School Competition so students
were shown how to run the famous 'Cup Stacking Competition'.

Rules
Hands must start palm down on the table, with all 10 cups stacked up in the
triangle ready to go. The time starts and the competitor has to break down all
of the cups so they are stacked up in one tower of cups; they then must re-build
the triangle of cups with the time stopping when the last cup is on the top and
hands are back flat on the table (as they started). Competitors can use one or two hands.

We are in the process of creating an exciting new link with
Totnes Canoe Club with the hope of getting kayaking and
canoeing back onto our extra-curricular programme. This
will obviously be great for the students, but the canoe club
have also offered to train up any staff who are interested
in supporting the club.
The Canoe Club has bought four small adult-sized kayaks
for the College to use with money donated by Dart
Renewables as part of the Hydro-Electric project. These
were handed over to the College in March, when Pete
Kibel of Dart Renewables and Bill Hargreaves of the Canoe
Club met with Kerrie O'Neill of the P.E. Department; Teresa
Lakeman, the KEVICC Business Director and students
Madison and Phoenix Davis and Poppy Gronow. The kayaks
are particularly manoeuvrable and buoyant, designed to
turn fast and safely, enabling good success in training.
